What do I mean by The Law of Attraction?

Print Friendly

The Law of Attraction (hereafter referred to as LOA) is said to be a Cosmic Law, which means that even if you may not know of it, or ‘believe’ in it, it is how the universe works nonetheless.  I say  ‘it is said’, because

a) I am no authority on Cosmic Law and

b) for my purposes it isn’t necessary to accept any of this for my work to be helpful.

However, I do personally accept it in a working-hypothesis sort of way, and sometimes forget myself and speak in those terms, so I want to address it now, in order to be on the same page later on. (For the record, please feel free to ask me to describe something in non-LOA terms if I do not do so .)

This will be a thumbnail sketch, if you wish to pursue the theory in more depth, please refer to the Resources page.

All matter is made up of energy (thank you Mr. Einstein, et al). All energy vibrates at it’s own particular vibrational “frequency”.  Light , sound, odors,  heat; all have vibrational frequencies (in my mind, I think of these as “soft matter” because they contain identified particles, whether we can see them or not).  Thoughts and feelings (which are intertwined, for the most part) also have vibrational frequencies ( I think of these as “incipient matter”, which is matter that hasn’t yet taken on an observable form).  We have even learned what those vibrations are by our experience of them, and we call them “feeling high” and “feeling low”.

The Law of Attraction (Cosmic Law, remember) states that: The essence of that which is like unto itself is drawn. The “essence” refers to the vibrational frequency.   Therefore the process of creation starts with a thought/feeling and then with the addition of sustained focused energy (attention) it is, over some period of time, manifested as matter.  So those who practice “deliberate creation” mindfully choose thoughts and feelings that are a vibrational match to those things and experiences they want in their lives.  This is referred to as becoming a “vibrational match” to what you want.

In other words, to use the LOA to consciously attract your dreams, you must “be the change you want to see”.

I have reservations about this perspective of using deliberate creation to manifest “stuff”.  To quote Abraham, “Everything that you want, you want because you think you will be happy in the having of it.”  In other words, you want “stuff” (and I include experiences and events in “stuff”) in order to feel good.  Maybe you want a house for security, a job you love for a sense of productivity, a lover for intimacy, etc.

Now consider this: according to the LOA you must be a vibrational match for those things to be magnetized to you, yes?  That means you must generate the feeling of security to get your house, an appreciation for how much you love the productivity in your life to get that job, etc.  It strikes me that if you can offer the vibration of what you are looking for, its “essence”, then you have already achieved what you wanted.  According to the LOA the rest of the “stuff” will come to you because the Cosmic Law will make it so!  So, your work here is really to identify the essence of what you want, see how it is already expressed in your life and keep your attention trained on your having of it.  Simply put, feel good about your life as it is and as it comes to you!

I am not suggesting that you not have dreams of better, because that is a natural thing to want more and better. To misquote an old saying, “It is important to want what you have in order to have what you want.”  Or as I read it in Scripture, “Seek first the Kingdom of God and all else will be added unto you.”  This is a reference to Abraham’s requirement  of”being in alignment” with your Source energy.  Hmmm, that looks like another blog post…

We come, then, to the reason why I say you do not need to accept the  existence of the LOA or teachings associated with it in order to benefit from this website and associated outreach programs.  My experience is in learning to feel good as much as possible, every day, with whatever life brings you now.

Le Chaim!
