Paradoxical Fun

Sometimes, when you are working on reorienting your thoughts to better-feeling ones, you hit a moment when you just can’t summon the energy/desire/motivation to “do the work”.  The first time I remember hitting this “roadblock”,  was when I was really angry about something.  It seemed, however, that whenever I tried to find a different thought, my mind went all fuzzy and there was nothing else to turn to.  I was vibrationally unavailable to any better-feeling thought.  Eventually, I gave myself up to the anger and just went with it, and when it was spent I discovered that now I felt like pivoting my thoughts.

My experience with feeling low wasn’t exactly like this, in that it didn’t blow itself out.  Instead I kept saying to myself, “This is where I am, right now and it is fine.  I accept  this, I accept exactly who I am right now, and I look forward to feeling better.”  I was surprised, actually, to find out that while I wasn’t exactly enjoying these times, they had their up side. Being angry felt powerful and a release, and provided I didn’t share it in a hurtful way with those around me, harmless.  Being bored and unproductive, while uncomfortable by being unfamiliar, had a restful aspect.

So sometimes I just wanted to be angry, sometimes I just wanted to feel sorry for myself, sometimes I just wanted to cry, etc.  Because I found some strange, non-traditional enjoyment from it, I decided to call it “paradoxical fun”.  And ever since I discovered this perspective, I’ve been able to analyze it and see how it works in a LoA paradigm.

To begin with, allowing myself to feel what I feel sends a great big “I accept and approve of myself” message to my subconscious.  I love myself warts and all, just as my Source does. That is being in alignment.

Secondly, being willing to accept even the “ugly” parts of myself, the ones that my tapes have decreed as unacceptable has allowed me to stop holding judgements against myself and see them all as just experiences.  It also means that I have no dark side to hide from.  I don’t have to fear that “you won’t like me if you really knew me” syndrome that many of us secretly fear is true.  If I can like even my dark bits, then I will be a vibrational match to people who also can.  In any event, I’ll like myself. :)  This is also being in alignment.

Thirdly, I no longer feel threatened by being stuck in an unpleasant emotion/experience.  Knowing that I can change it whenever I am ready to allows me the freedom to really experience it.  This is freedom, and also in alignment.

According to Abraham, if we hadn’t wanted to experience trials and travails we would not have incarnated.  They say that we came here for the fun of getting out of alignment in order to find our way back into alignment.  I expect that that is what I am calling “paradoxical fun”.

Now I have another wish for people, apart from “Have fun!”.  I can wish them “Have paradoxical fun!”, although I might do it in my head until I’m sure they are ready to hear it out loud…

Essences

Today I want to talk about essences. We all have things that we want; we want money, cars, clothes, lovers, jobs, whatever. And we want each of those things for a particular reason. An essence is that “thing” that you’re looking for, and more specifically, it’s that thing, as it would feel. So, for example, we all want lots of money because we want what we can get with lots of money. We can go places, do things, avoid doing things-we don’t have to work at a job we don’t like if we have lots and lots of money. So what do all those things have in common?

For me, I want money because I want the freedom to do whatever I want, whenever I want, without stopping to consider whether I can afford it. It’s the old joke, you go into a fancy French restaurant and if you have to ask the prices you can’t afford it. I want to live as though I can afford anything I want. And the basic, underlying essence of that is that I feel free. I want to feel completely unlimited.  I want to have the opportunity to do all the things I can name. All of those things could actually come to me, even without money! I could get the opportunity to do a job that I absolutely love, that didn’t feel like doing a job, that felt like having fun. I could go places and see things and do stuff by being invited, for example, without necessarily having to have any money.  I could win a prize, or something completely unexpected could provide the means or the money (because I am not against getting the money, either).

So once I accept the fact that I can have the essence that I’m looking for, I realize that in fact I can have it lots of ways. I’m unlimited, there’s no reason why money has to be the only way in which I get what I want. In that case, I can begin looking at all of the things that I could have, without making money the pre-condition. Better yet, I can look at how I already have that essence in my life. What are some of the freedoms that I want from having lots of money? I want to be able to own my own schedule.  Well, this is true, I don’t have a job. I can pretty much do whatever I want whenever I want, with some limitations!

I say with some limitations, because I still accept that there are limitations.  I haven’t yet been invited to go traveling around the world. However, that doesn’t mean it couldn’t happen! It just means it hasn’t happened yet. It partly hasn’t happened yet because I always think, “Ooh. If I were really rich, I could go traveling”, and I set it up as though that’s the way it has to be. Rather than saying, “Boy you know, I’m really looking forward to going to Ireland, or Scotland, or Turkey, or China, or wherever”, and allow the Law of Attraction to bring that opportunity in to me at exactly the right price.

So to identify the essence of what you’re looking for allows you to apply that understanding to what you already have. And as we know, with the Law of Attraction, in order to attract a thing, you already have to be feeling full of whatever quality, essence that you are seeking. In order to attract lots of money, you have to feel really abundant!  In order to attract love, you have to feel really loved! So now that you can look at a thing that you want and identify the essence from it, you can identify how you already have it in your life. Concentrate on that, put your attention on that, allow yourself to really feel happy, glad, grateful that you have that essence in your life to a degree you haven’t been crediting.

Once you truly feel that way two things will happen. One is that you will be happy because you have what you always wanted, and second is that those things which compliment that feeling will come to you. That is the Law of Attraction. Now that I’ve identified, as I just now did identify, the reason that I haven’t traveled the world is because I always defined it as something I could only do if I had lots of money, which I never believed I had.  Now I can travel the world simply because I’ve been invited to. You probably won’t believe this, but I just remembered that my daughter invited me to go traveling with her next summer. Whoa, I must be onto something…

That is the essence of essences.  It is partly your thoughts, but largely it’s the feeling. If you will go around feeling, “I can do whatever I want. I am completely free”, then the things that prove to you that you are completely free continue to arrive in your environment. Identifying the essence allows you to identify how you already have it, which allows you to become a vibrational match to having more of it, which is what you wanted in the first place.

The way it’s meant to work: Part 2

Step One of deliberate creation is having a desire.  Abraham tells us this is an automatic, instantaneous response to stimuli and NOT under our conscious control.   When we become aware of this response, we can use the understanding of it to focus upon the desire, but the desire itself is instantaneous.

Step Two is that the Law of Attraction brings that which will fulfill this desire to us.  Once again, not our job, the LoA handles the “How” of things. (And may I just say, THANK YOU GOD!)

Step Three is allowing your desires to materialize for you.  This, says Abraham, is our only job.  “But, but, what the heck does ‘allowing’ look like, feel like?”, we wonder.   This is the best question!

Let’s look at these steps in detail.

Step1 -This “rocket of desire” is a vibrational frequency which you are broadcasting.  Think of it as magnetic emanations that take on the shape and essence of your desire.  The non-physical part of you (I am finding it hard to use You to describe this at the beginning of  a sentence) becomes a vibrational match to your desire by using the method we think of as imagination.  “You” create images, sensations and feelings that correspond to the desire you’ve conceived of.

This imagined state of being creates a framework to hang matter upon, rather like a sculptor with clay might use a wire template to flesh out into form.  This creates an energetic template for “you” to follow.  Your EGS lets you know whether you are moving towards or away from your desired thing by whether you feel harmony or dissonance with it’s frequency, which your inner being is vibrating at, which it has “become”.

It occurs to me, just now, that if thought is the basis of all form/matter, then your inner being (“You”) is your Thought-self.  I like this image because it is easier to see how one’s Thought-self is integral to one’s Matter-self, and also gives us a parallel for what follows here.

Okay, your Thought-self instantaneously becomes a vibrational match to the desire your Matter-self generated.  It is instantaneous because it happens on the level of thought.   Your Matter-self can know what to focus it’s attention on by whether the thought feels harmonious (good) or dissonant (uncomfortable).  This is how Abraham tells us we can “feel our way” through life. With each new rocket of desire, we refine and/or expand our desires and feel our way towards them.

Step 2-As the tendrils of your magnetic emanations expand outward from you they are complemented by the LoA, which matches the frequency of your magnetism with things of similar shape and essence. The LoA brings us the opportunities to fulfill our desires and we discern the “right” actions from how they make us feel.

The “right” action, of course, is right only in the context of what we have asked for, and as the unique beings we are at any given moment.  Not only can what we desire change, it is guaranteed to change.  These are the refinements we make on a continuing basis.   “I want to prove I am good enough” becomes,  “On second thought, I am good enough, I want things to be easy”  which morphs into, “Well, this is kinda boring, maybe just enough challenge to be interesting, but not enough to be painful.”   Etc.

Step 3-Here we have the parallel I spoke of earlier.  Your Thought-self became a vibrational match to your desires by seeing them, matching sensations and feelings to the “imagined” scenario.  So your Matter-self does it as well.  Imagine, remember or perceive in this moment that what you want is what you have and it will be.  Make it so, Number One.

The way it’s meant to be is effortless, obvious, natural and rewarding.  Have a desire and it is met. Ask and ye shall receive.  It doesn’t feel like this is the way it is working in large part because we do not trust our feelings, have accepted false beliefs about what we can do, what we “have to” do, what we deserve and the duty we owe to others.  Letting go of these forms of resistance can be hard work, (at least until the belief that it has to be hard work is released :)), but it gets easier and easier as you pay attention to what makes you feel good.

The power of “Now”…and “Then”

You are always Here, Now.

Yesterday, 5 minutes ago and tomorrow do not exist!   Except, of course in your imagination, or as we call it when we are looking backward in time, memory.  Or else, perhaps, if indeed there are no such things as time and space, they exist concurrently with Now.

Each of these perspectives can be useful.   Now exists as your point of power, the place where you can take action.  If you cannot take action, it is not useful to waste your energy fretting about not being able to do so.  For example, it is oh-so-easy to get caught up in things that are not happening right now, and to treat them as if they were.  Are you mentally paying next month’s bills?  Or deciding if you can get that project done by your deadline?  Are you getting nervous? Why?

You don’t have to be afraid of something that isn’t happening.  In fact, if you can get a handle on your imaginings, you can assure yourself that the future that you anticipate nervously does not come to you.

If it is not time for action, what is it time for?  Pre-paving.  Segment intending.  In other words, using your imagination and your intent (because these are the tools of creation) to find good-feeling scenarios.  What you are thinking/feeling is what you are broadcasting to the LoA to match, so if it is scary, find another thought!

“I have food now, my bills are paid now, I am impeccably guided to take the right action at the right time, I know how to find the “up” side to everything that comes to me”, etc.

If you are going to think in the future, make it a good-feeling imagination, because the feelings that your imaginings about the future are bringing up within you are happening Now, being broadcast Now, being matched by the LoA in 17 seconds, in 68 seconds…

The same is true for memories, so HEAL them!  Use your pivoting skills to change the perspective, to see the other information that you weren’t aware of at the time, to give value to the experience.  If that is too hard, play “wouldn’t it have been nice” if it had happened another way.  It is not important to make it “true”, this is about changing your point of attraction in the Now!  Make it feel good Now!

This reminds me of a discussion I had with my husband a few years ago (pre-Abraham for me). He said “Create your own reality” felt overwhelming and since there are parallel universes of every description already existing (at least in potentia) he would prefer to think of it as “choosing” his own reality, thereby bypassing the process of constructing it detail by detail.  This “wouldn’t it be nice” game helped him access it through his subconscious.

Sometimes, especially with fear, it seems as if better-feeling thoughts are hiding from you.  This is a good time to use your intention.  First intend to release the physical sensation of fear, breathe deeply and remind yourself that you are not alone, you have all of Source to draw upon.  Ask for assistance.  Intend that the thoughts you want are there and they will become evident to you.  The more you relax, the more your Source is able to communicate with you, and the more positive perspectives you will think of.

Imagination and intention.  What you put your attention on grows larger and more real. It is the truth behind “Seek and ye shall find”.

Effortlessness

Breathe in, breathe out.

What have you just accomplished?  You have just exchanged who you were a moment ago with who you have become now.  It was easy and natural.  You even do it while you are concentrating your attention on other things, because you allow your body to prompt you to take a breath, and the next.  You go along with it because it is easy and rewarding.  You don’t pay attention to it until something out of the ordinary happens, like unaccustomed exercise, or you bring it to your attention intentionally, like in yoga or meditation.

That is precisely how all changes in life happen;  moment by moment, as incremental movement.  This is the reason why it is so helpful to pay attention and give credit to yourself for the smallest improvements.  You are building upon each of these moments, just as each tiny stitch in knitting or embroidery is creating a whole new creation that has never before existed.  We often wish to jump ahead to the completed project, because our mind’s eye can already behold the thing, and we see ourselves at that moment of pride in completing it and using it.

This ability to see into the future and anticipate it with excitement is essential in the creation of our desires, but if it is emphasized over the triumphs of the moment, it is all too easy to become frustrated with not having it NOW.  This , of course, slows down the creation process by being a vibrational match to NOT having the thing you desire!  What is the solution to this?  Let’s examine two methods.

Abraham’s 3 step process

Step One-Respond to the life you are living.  This is automatic, you do not have consciously participate in this step.

Step Two-Your inner being, your Thought-self, becomes a vibrational match to the desire you have generated in Step One.  The LoA causes the elements that will fulfill your desire to come into your environment.  Again, this is done without your conscious participation.

Step Three-You “allow” this fulfillment of your desire by noticing in what ways, or to what degree your desire has been fulfilled.  This is the only step that requires your attention, and once you have the hang of it, your life truly becomes effortless.  I can say this because I can envision it, but I must admit I have not yet achieved effortlessness.  I have, however, reached a point of much greater ease.  I find it easier and quicker to identify my feelings, to change my perspective on a situation or, when appropriate, relax and accept myself about not doing the work until I am ready.

I found this method very helpful in the beginning, mostly because it took the pressure off of me to figure out how to achieve what I wanted.  However, it took a lot of study and effort to understand what “allowing” consisted of, or how to be a vibrational match to what I wasn’t feeling at the time.  So I developed my own 3 step process.

My step one-Identify how I am feeling.  Decide whether I want to feel that way. If not…

My step two- Decide how I do want to feel.  I find that if I allow myself to just ramble on about what I want to feel (preferably aloud), I will usually come out with a description that fits so perfectly it “pings”, resounding with rightness.  If time allows and I feel the urge, I will elaborate on this to milk it for all it’s good-feeling-ness.

My step 3- Collapse time.  Now that I have identified how I want to feel, it is time to become a vibrational match to being it.  Therefore, I find the ways in which I already feel that way.  If it involves having a thing, money for example, I will find all the money I do have and give credit to having it.  I will also identify the essence that I want money for (freedom to do what I  like, security, etc) and find those things that I have now that fulfill the essence I want.  Really, this is an exercise in finding the positive aspects of my life that I have been blind to until this point.  It makes me feel better NOW, which is a relief, and it makes me a vibrational match to what I want.

It is good to understand that while such targeted exercises in feeling better about specific things makes me a vibrational match to those things, any time I can feel good about anything improves my dominant vibration.  This is nice because there are times and issues I have difficulty letting go of, finding positive aspects of.  In those circumstances, I turn my attention to anything that I can feel good about and I get relief.  Sort of the way I would treat a toddler, when logic fails, use distraction!

Finally, Abraham is always urging us to appreciate what we already have.  In a recent bout with wanting my life to be effortless (in particular, these writings!), I took this advice and reminded myself of how much I have already accomplished.  Then it dawned on me, what could be more effortless than what is already done!  Look around yourself for how much you have already achieved toward your goals and in your life, you will be surprised at how far you’ve come and it will make you feel better.

The way it’s meant to work: Part 1 (definitions)

According to Abraham this is how the process of attraction works and what it would be like if we could eliminate our resistance.  In their “Getting into the Vortex Guided Meditations CD” (which I highly recommend)  Abraham states, “Your life is supposed to feel good to you, and you are meant to feel happiness in your life- and you are meant to satisfy your dreams.”

As always, the following terms and descriptions are my understanding and imagery of the material, garnered from Seth and others as well as Abraham.

First some definition of “terms”.

You and you

There are two parts to each of us, the part that perceives itself as being in a physical body and the part that remains in a non-physical form, what Abraham refers to as “the larger, broader part”.  I say ‘two parts’, but it is important to understand that these parts are as indivisible as your heart and the rest of your body.  One cannot exist without the other.  In my mind I sometimes think of these as ‘you’ (physical) and ‘You” (non-physical).

It might be helpful to think of these as in a video game.   “You” is the game player, “you” is the character (Mario?), with a key difference being that You can see the action from a broader perspective and at the same time see from Mario’s perspective, while Mario can act independently and does not always share the perspective of the game player.

Rockets of desire

As you play your game/life, the experiences you have stimulate a response.  This is an instantaneous response to the stimulus and often you are not even aware that it exists or what it is.  Perhaps someone has been rude to you, you instantly want to be treated more respectfully.   You might be  distracted by the information you were exchanging and only later become aware of having been treated rudely, but the response is instantaneous.   You felt the feeling right away, but it didn’t become conscious of it right then.  Think of all the times you’ve had a phone call, and much later defined what upset you, and then you come up with a snappy comeback.

These instantaneous responses are what Abraham calls “rockets of desire”, and this is “Step One” in the process of deliberate creation or manifestation.  This “rocket of desire” is a vibrational frequency which you are broadcasting.

Vibrational Frequency

All things have a vibrational frequency which is, quite literally, the rate at which they vibrate.  The examples of this we are most familiar with are light and sound (light waves and radio waves), and I like to use music as my example for this.    Certain notes sound good played with other notes, they are harmonious, their frequencies have a particular mathematical relationship.  Other notes, which have another mathematical relationship sound bad together, they are dissonant. As with many things, you do not have to know the math in order to identify what does or does not sound good together (to you).  The same is true for thoughts, and feelings. We can feel what is harmonious (pleasant) or dissonant (unpleasant).  Sometimes you meet someone who seems to be just your type, you hit it off because you are on the same “wavelength”.  Someone who you find grating is “not on your wavelength”.

According to Abraham, this harmony or dissonance is based on your “dominant vibrations”.   This can be thought of as an average taken over time and circumstances. Your vibration changes all the time according to what you are paying attention to.  A good example of this was my relationship with certain people I met when homeschooling my kids.  I found that many of the “Christian” homeschoolers were not on my wavelength on matters of religion, but we were very close on home birth, alternative medicine and many of our homeschool practices.  Another good example is my taste in music, which has shifted over time and, on occasion, with tutoring.

EGS

There is a form of communication between You and you which is intended to notify you of the next step to take to achieve what your life has caused you to desire.  It is your feeling state, your emotions.  Abraham calls this your Emotional Guidance System and it works like a GPS.  When you feel good, you’re on the path  to what your rocket of desire has created.  When you feel bad, you are not.  Thoughts are the basis of feelings  (See “Do you want to feel good“) and so Abraham tells us to choose thoughts which feel better.

The game player is always urging Mario on with what we call instinct/intuition/guidance/the still, small voice but Mario can ignore those urgings.  We in bodies, ie the Mario perspective, have forgotten that we exist on the player scale and been trained to disregard those whisperings of guidance at least some, if not most, of the time.

Resistance

This can be thought of as an old habit of thought which defines our lives as limiting in any way.  It is any thought which prevents us from being receptive to feeling good, experiencing happiness and achieving our dreams.  Any thought which includes “I can’t” or “how?” (such as “how am i going to pay for this”, or “find my true love”, or “get this all done”, etc) is resistant.

The Focus of Attention

There is a saying common in create-your-own-reality circles, “What you focus on grows larger”.  This is exactly the same as a “self-fulfilling prophecy”.  If all you can see when you look in the mirror is that big, red pimple on the end of your nose, you are also sure that is what everyone else is looking at as well.   This is certainly true in middle school, and your peers will reward you with confirmation of it.   What you seek, you do indeed find.

This also the basis of the parenting advice taught in schools, ” Catch your child being good!” and “Children will live up to, or down to, your expectations of them”.  Why so many quotes?  Partly to point out that “what you focus on grows larger” is just a woo-woo way of saying something that is pretty well accepted by mainstream society, and partly to lay the groundwork for using consciously directed focus to improve your life.

Think of a dark cabaret, filled with people and talking, staff moving around, smells wafting through the air.  The spotlight comes up on the stage and everyone focuses their attention on the stage.  If the performer is good enough, your awareness of all that other activity can simply disappear.  Imagine then, how selective attention to what you enjoy about what is happening in your life can make the parts you don’t enjoy “disappear”.

Each thing has positive and  negative aspects, so you have the choice of what to put your attention on.  This takes practice as well, and at times, it takes giving yourself permission to ignore things which you dis-enjoy.  Or to put a positive “spin” on it.  Same thing.  For example,  I am regularly visited by the ghost of martyrdom past that I learned at my mother’s knee. I find myself thinking that my family leave things undone for me to do; belongings strewn around, food unrefrigerated, toilet paper unstocked, etc. I think, ‘Why is this always my job? or ‘Can’t anyone else see that this has to be done’ or similar versions of the same theme.  So I suggest, or complain, or nag, all the while angry that I should even have to say anything.

In fact, I do not have to do any of those things.  I can choose to leave the thing undone, I can choose to do it for my own reasons, I can choose to mention it as a problem and ask my family for input in resolving it.  What I actually choose to do will vary, but the task in front of me each time is to focus on what I want and not on what makes me angry.  Sometimes I want help, sometimes I want appreciation, sometimes I want it not to be up to me at all.  When I can identify that desire, I can move towards it.  If all I am looking at is what is wrong, all I can see is what is wrong!

Sometimes we get in too deep to be able to find a positive side.  As always, there are options.  Ignore it until you feel better and then try again,  just a little bit.  I knit a sweater once from the pattern from hell.  Lots of things didn’t work and my fixes seemed to make more problems.  I finally posted my quandry on a knitting forum and one responder sympathized, saying she had some projects like that in a drawer.  I was flabbergasted.  I could put it in a drawer! That had never dawned on me.  When I finally pulled the project back out, months later, I had gained a new perspective and was able to make choices about what I was willing and not willing to do and the sweater got done.  Distraction is not only a wonderful parenting tool, but a terrific self-sanity tool as well.

We are used to disregarding many of our thoughts, feelings, accomplishments.  Dis-regard, not look at.  This is a terrific tool, and very useful, but only when you are dis-regarding what you DON’T like!  So, while you are dis-regarding the things you don’t like, what are you putting in their place?  Simple.  What you DO like.  When someone compliments you, do you tell them it is nothing? Your project is great- do you say yes, but there are still problems?  Try this: whenever you hear yourself say, “Yes, but…”, change it (at least mentally) to “Yes, so…”  It is surprising the places that simple word choice will lead you!

Look at what you have and appreciate it.  Look at who you are, what you can do,  and appreciate it.  And then, as Abraham urges, look forward with eagerness to what is coming.

The importance of feeling good

Seems like a no-brainer, right?  Feeling good is it’s own reward.  This is true and obvious, so why do we all do so many things that don’t feel good?  The short answer is that we have convinced ourselves that we must.  We “have to” work at that crummy, low-paid job which isn’t even fun and the managers don’t appreciate what unique and valuable things we have to offer.  We “have to” get up all night long to feed that baby, and then spend all day cooking, cleaning and taking care of the other rug rats.  We “have to” chop that wood, bale that hay, can those vegetables.

“Whoa!”, you say, “Of course I have to do those things!  We’d never survive if we didn’t!”  I am not taking exception to things needing to get done in life, just the perspective of “having to”.  It strikes me as a fundamental need for people to have a sense of freedom (why else do we all want lots of money?) and if you look at the things you do all day as being required of you, rather than chosen by you, your sense of freedom is diminished.  (see “Choices”)

We may not have control over what happens in our lives, but we have always got the choice of how we choose to see and feel about them.  The steering wheel in my car had been shaking for a week or so, and I thought about checking it out to see what it meant.  Then yesterday my husband had a flat tire when he got up to go to work.  He changed the tire, but on his way home, the lug nuts must have worked loose and the wheel fell off while he was driving.  He was fine, but the truck needed a lot of repair.  This was a reminder to me to get on with seeing to my car, which as it turned out had a belt separation and according to the mechanic could have blown out at any time, but soon for sure.

Since I brought my car to the same shop as my husband had, the mechanic commiserated with me about so much car repair expense.  Then he said, “The thing that worries me, you know, is they say that bad things always come in threes…” .  “The trick,” I replied, laughing, “is to see it as a good thing!”  My husband had kept the car under control and escaped injury, I was chivvied into getting my car fixed, which saved the stress of a blowout as well as the cost of towing!  I counted all that as  four good things, minimum.

It is all about perspective.  Everything that happens can be construed as good or bad, depending on how you view it.  Even things that are almost universally considered bad have good aspects.  The Holocaust and the Twin Towers attack, which are  horrifying and fearful examples of  ‘Man’s inhumanity to Man’  have caused people the world over to look around with new eyes at the global community and what makes it work, to hold their loved ones close and remember to appreciate them, to be grateful for the good things life has to offer us, individually as well as world wide.

Okay then, the importance of feeling good.  I want to juxtapose the Law of Attraction and mainstream “reasons” for feeling good, mostly to save me a whole ‘nother post, as this is the only LoA thing I want to say in this context.  The LoA teachings posit that what you are thinking/feeling now is what you are attracting to yourself for the future.  Obviously then, if you want good-feeling things to come to you, you find a way to feel good now (or as good as you can, as soon as you can), no matter what is happening.

The more mainstream reasons to maintain feeling good are, firstly, that it feels good.  Duh. Secondly, when you feel good, you get inspired ideas for dealing with things.  This does not happen when you are depressed or angry or frightened.  You may think of solutions to problems at those times but they are depressed or angry or frightened solutions.  Thirdly, when you feel good you get where you want to go so much more easily.   Hard work feels less ‘workish” and more productive,  problems are challenges to surmount, you are more willing to exult in your progress, etc.  Doing your tasks without feeling good about it feels like pushing against yourself, slogging, increasingly difficult, and in the end- not good enough.  And certainly not worth the effort.

You know it’s true. You want to always do the things you want to do, and feel good while you’re doing them.  So if you want to make a living, take care of the children and keep the farm, you can choose to feel good about the ways you have chosen to do that.  Until you make another choice, that is…

What do I mean by The Law of Attraction?

The Law of Attraction (hereafter referred to as LOA) is said to be a Cosmic Law, which means that even if you may not know of it, or ‘believe’ in it, it is how the universe works nonetheless.  I say  ‘it is said’, because

a) I am no authority on Cosmic Law and

b) for my purposes it isn’t necessary to accept any of this for my work to be helpful.

However, I do personally accept it in a working-hypothesis sort of way, and sometimes forget myself and speak in those terms, so I want to address it now, in order to be on the same page later on. (For the record, please feel free to ask me to describe something in non-LOA terms if I do not do so .)

This will be a thumbnail sketch, if you wish to pursue the theory in more depth, please refer to the Resources page.

All matter is made up of energy (thank you Mr. Einstein, et al). All energy vibrates at it’s own particular vibrational “frequency”.  Light , sound, odors,  heat; all have vibrational frequencies (in my mind, I think of these as “soft matter” because they contain identified particles, whether we can see them or not).  Thoughts and feelings (which are intertwined, for the most part) also have vibrational frequencies ( I think of these as “incipient matter”, which is matter that hasn’t yet taken on an observable form).  We have even learned what those vibrations are by our experience of them, and we call them “feeling high” and “feeling low”.

The Law of Attraction (Cosmic Law, remember) states that: The essence of that which is like unto itself is drawn. The “essence” refers to the vibrational frequency.   Therefore the process of creation starts with a thought/feeling and then with the addition of sustained focused energy (attention) it is, over some period of time, manifested as matter.  So those who practice “deliberate creation” mindfully choose thoughts and feelings that are a vibrational match to those things and experiences they want in their lives.  This is referred to as becoming a “vibrational match” to what you want.

In other words, to use the LOA to consciously attract your dreams, you must “be the change you want to see”.

I have reservations about this perspective of using deliberate creation to manifest “stuff”.  To quote Abraham, “Everything that you want, you want because you think you will be happy in the having of it.”  In other words, you want “stuff” (and I include experiences and events in “stuff”) in order to feel good.  Maybe you want a house for security, a job you love for a sense of productivity, a lover for intimacy, etc.

Now consider this: according to the LOA you must be a vibrational match for those things to be magnetized to you, yes?  That means you must generate the feeling of security to get your house, an appreciation for how much you love the productivity in your life to get that job, etc.  It strikes me that if you can offer the vibration of what you are looking for, its “essence”, then you have already achieved what you wanted.  According to the LOA the rest of the “stuff” will come to you because the Cosmic Law will make it so!  So, your work here is really to identify the essence of what you want, see how it is already expressed in your life and keep your attention trained on your having of it.  Simply put, feel good about your life as it is and as it comes to you!

I am not suggesting that you not have dreams of better, because that is a natural thing to want more and better. To misquote an old saying, “It is important to want what you have in order to have what you want.”  Or as I read it in Scripture, “Seek first the Kingdom of God and all else will be added unto you.”  This is a reference to Abraham’s requirement  of”being in alignment” with your Source energy.  Hmmm, that looks like another blog post…

We come, then, to the reason why I say you do not need to accept the  existence of the LOA or teachings associated with it in order to benefit from this website and associated outreach programs.  My experience is in learning to feel good as much as possible, every day, with whatever life brings you now.
